Ultrasound of the Infant Hip as Part of Preventive Care

What is the Purpose of Infant Hip Ultrasound?

Ultrasound screening of newborns’ hip joints for hip dysplasia is important and advisable. It should be performed no later than during the preventive check-up U3 in the 4th to 5th week of life. Leg misalignments can indicate a hip disease, while palpation cannot detect a hip maturation disorder. Early diagnosis is particularly important as it allows for the natural growth potential of the hip joint to be utilized in therapy.
