Hyaluronic acid injections

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is mainly produced in cartilage cells and the joint mucosa. Hyaluronic acid gives the joint fluid its thick fluid. Hyaluronic acid is thus the actual “lubricant” in the joint, which supports the gliding ability of the joint surfaces. In case of inflammation or after injuries, the availability of hyaluronic acid in the joint decreases. This reduction can be compensated by injecting hyaluronic acid directly into the joint.
